Seyi Akiwowo

Seyi Akiwowo is a governance architect bringing a public health approach to AI and digital safety. She helps organisations move from cleaning up harm after it happens to designing it out from the start, building duty of care into how products are made, how services are commissioned and the questions boards ask.

She started in public service, elected at 23 as the youngest Black female councillor in East London. After facing coordinated online abuse, she founded Glitch, which grew into Europe’s leading charity tackling online abuse and helped shape debate on the Online Safety Act. She has sat on TikTok and Twitter’s Trust and Safety Councils and Yoti’s ethics council, and advised product and policy teams at Google Jigsaw, Pinterest and Virgin Media O2.

Seyi is the author of How to Stay Safe Online (Penguin), a Visiting Fellow at Queen Mary University of London and a Policy Fellow at Royal Holloway’s London Social Media Observatory.
