Last week, we were pleased to welcome Amy Hargreaves, a Product Design A-Level student, for a week of work experience. Amy joined our design team and contributed to a series of social media posts celebrating Pride Month. Below, she’s shared a write-up of her week with us. Thanks for all your great work, Amy! :)

As an A-level Product Design student, I have always been interested in creativity and the process of forming a product. I also have experience in designing and creating new products and the factors that need to be considered. My interest in joining Nexer for a week's work experience was because they offer a range of digital services, including design and web development. Another reason I thought they were great to work with is because of their reputation for treating everyone with kindness and respect, which was why they stood out from other companies. They aim to design everything they create to be easily accessible and user-friendly.

On my first day in the office, everyone was very welcoming, including Nexer’s Managing Director Hilary, who showed me around and introduced me to the members of the team. I had a meeting with Emma, who is one of the designers in the group, and she explained to me her role and what she is working on at the moment. This was interesting for me as it gave me a better understanding of the kind of work they do at Nexer.

This was followed by chats with Lee and Cat, who were also very welcoming. Cat started me off working on some social media posts relating to Pride Month and a plan to design them, including research and discovery. I did some of my own research on Nexer, and I also looked at how others designed Pride posts.

Below, image 1: Exploring some initial ideas for inspiration.

In the team, everyone has helped me. While creating and designing the Instagram posts on Figma, Emma, Chris, Cat and Tracey have been very supportive. These posts included quotes from the team about their feelings and support for Pride to give a message about how important this month is to raise awareness and support LGBTQIA+ people.

Below, image 3: The final version of the posts, as seen on our social media profiles.
